The Garden Hoe

The garden hoe is a tool that may be used to break up the soil surface, chop of weeds below the soil surface, break up hard soil, pile up soil around plants like potatos called drawing, create planting or seed furrows. Some are designed with one function while others have multiple uses.

For the novice gardener perhaps either the dutch hoe or the swoe would make a good starting point for breaking up the soil surface.

• Draw Hoe -- Main purpose is to draw soil up around plants like potatoes.
